DELL Precision T5500 Network Port damaged by electrical storm

DELL Precision T5500 Network Port damaged by electrical storm – Need a PCIe Network Card Replacement – Recommendations

The onboard Ethernet port for my DELL T5500, the main computer that I work from was damaged by an electrical storm.

To fix this, my options are:

  • Get a replacement motherboard and transfer everything across including the Windows 10 license (I can do but its the most painful way to go)
  • Wireless USB adapter
  • USB-to-Ethernet Adapter
  • Network Card

I have two other DELL T5500's that I remote desktop into on a regular basis via a modem/router (a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 which keeps everything simple).

I think my best option is the Network Card approach and I have one spare PCI Express  slot remaining.  As per the DELL T5500 user guide, it is SLOT3 (PCI Express 2.0 x16 Card Slot, wired as x8).

Looking for any recommendations for a Network Card that is:

  • Gigabyte speed (or same speed as the original LAN port)
  • Compatible with SLOT3 specification (PCI Express 2.0 x16 Card Slot, wired as x8)
  • Works on Windows 10
  • Is thin as possible as it will be a tight fit between a space hogging video card and a Syba SATA controller card.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.
