T7600 upgrade: can it work with Radeon RX 5700 XT ?

So I bought a Radeon RX 5700 XT card with 2 8-pin power connectors. I tried to connect them to power_vga1 and power_vga2 slots but it doesn't seem to work. I can only see cpu fans turned on but not the graphic card fans. Any idea how to make it work? Thanks!

  • You would need a 6 to 8 pin adapter to make the card work like these:

    https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-2-Pack-6-Pin-Adapter/dp/B01DV1Z32Y/ref=sr_1_3?crid=26TE12442XEXE&keywords=6pin+to+8pin+pcie+adapter&qid=1576132017&sprefix=6pin+t%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-3

Also,  if you didn't already do so, you may want to make sure the 5700 XT will fit with the case closed. Unlike the 7500 series, the 7600 series has a bar along the side of the cover that prevents some tall cards to be inserted.

    • stormson weathers Thank you! The power supply doesn't have 6 pin connectors. I found two 8-pin connectors instead that connected to the slots on the Power Supply Extended Card at the back of the case and they can fit into the 8-pin connectors on the graphic card. As for the size, it doesn't matter to me since I don't plan to close the case. Here is the link to the card I brought:https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-taichi-x-8g-oc/p/N82E16814930022?Item=N82E16814930022

    • Norman Ding Be sure to doublecheck your PCIE power cabling. sometimes a loose wire going to the pins will cause a video card to only power the fans. Also if you have canned air, blow out the PCIE slot the card is being inserted into and make sure there is no debris on the PCIE headers on the video card as well.

Overall it's usually a power delivery issue when only the fans are powering up. Sometimes even a new card with a bad bios can give the same results as well. Please let us know if you made any further progress in your situation.

    • Norman Ding I will continue to try and research the issue further on my end.

    • stormson weathers One other suggestion to regarding the PCIE power cables: You can try and run the card without them plugged in and see if the fans will spin on their own. If the do, it may be a issue with the 8pin cables.

    • stormson weathers updates: I just updated Dell BIOS to A17 and I changed the connection to power_vga1 and power_vga3, now the LED on the graphic card is turned on but the fans are still not turned on. I also tried 8-pin cables from another power supply but result the same.

    • Norman Ding I don't know if you already tried or not, but did you flash the video card BIOS? With a second video card plugged in did you see the card in your device manager?

    • stormson weathers I can't test that, because this card is so big, there's no space for another card.

    • Norman Ding It is. I personally use this version on my T7600:

Its a great card for the price and the performance and can do raytracing very well.

    • Norman Ding If you game at 1080p you won't regret the card. I use a 3440x1440 monitor and the card was able to run Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 54FPS on ultra and it only requires a single 8pin pcie power cable. I'm sure with some extra tweaking I might manage 60fps at that res.

    • Norman Ding yes, I used the card with a HTC vive and a Dell Visor WMR. Both worked without issues.

    • stormson weathers Update: I changed to a new monitor and now I can enter windows and even install driver, however the fans on the card were still not turned on. Also do you know if there is any USB 3.0 slot on T7600? Mine seems not have any.

    • Norman Ding you may have to run a game for the fans to switch on. Even on my 2060 the fans sometimes won't power up unless the gpu is active. As for USB 3.0; yes it has two 5 Gbps ports. One in the front and one in the back. Both labeled USB SS.
