HP Z400 6 memory slots slot 1 fail

Hi all

My daughter's HP Z400 all of a sudden start giving warning of memory fail on start up:

209-Memory warning condition (WARN_DQS_TEST) detected slot CPU0 DIMM1

209-Memory warning condition (WARN_DQS_TEST) detected slot CPU0 DIMM1

209-Memory warning condition (rd dq dqs) detected slot CPU0 DIMM1

203-Memory module failed self test and failing rank was disabled slot CPU0 DIMM1

F1: Boot

After boot when i got to system it shows 12gb of ram only 8 in use

Looked it up and found that 203—Memory module failed 209 incorrect memory module type in use.

I tested and move a the ram from slot 3 to slot one with no other memory install and got red light(power bottom)

Did the same tried all 3 ram sticks and got same results.

When i installed ram in slot 3 and 5 PC start and in System shows 8G ram and 8G ram in use.

I think my problem here is the memory slot 1 and not the ram.

is that means The Z400 motherboard need to be replace?

Jbigticket23 Tried that all ready installed all 3 ram to  each slot and I think it’s slot number 1. It doesn’t matter which ram I installed in that slot it will give me red light.

I installed ram only in slot 3and 5 and pc works fine.

  • Oded  I understand.  You could swap the board or try to locate a couple 8GB modules cheap and use it with failed slots.  Let me know if you need help locating 8GB modules that are compatible with the Z400.

Oded Hi Jb I decided to purchase new motherboard I found one on EBay for $41.34 AU the only problem wasthat the delivery was $42.45AU.

Arrived from China lighting fast about 4 days.

easily I replaced it not before I backed up all files and deactivated Windows reinstalled Windows working fine all 12GB ram shows.

another exiting news I want to share with you is that I purchased 2 x Xeon X5675 for the HPZ600 installed working great.

And I successfully installed the 2x Xeon X5650from the S600for my children Z400 both crash or froze the first and than working fine.

  • Hi after installing the Xeon X5650 in the HPZ400 I notice in device manager/task manager performance that the threads no showing only the cores.

Why can't i see the cores threads?

I can see the threads in the Z600 when i had the X5650 installed but not in the Z400.

Anyway I ran Cinema bench and got improvement in the score in about 117 points from 381 to 498.
