Precision T7610 Upgrade

Good morning,

I have a Precision T7610 with a single Xeon E5-2660 v2 and 64 GB of ram DDR3-1800.

Till today I'm using this configuration for the virtualization with VMware and so on. I would like to upgrade this Workstation for gaming purpose.

Reading the post I saw a good option: https://www.greenpcgamers.com/uncategorized/make-my-precision-t7610-in-to-a-gaming-computer/

So, I'm planning to buy a Graphic Card (GTX 1660 maybe) and upgrading the workstation with the Xeon E5-2687W V2. You think that is a good option in 2021, I guess that no more update CPU are compatible with the old motherboard of Dell NK70N.

Dual E5-2687W V2 is a good option for gaming purpose?

As well to do to all this change maybe would be necessary to use a water cooling and change the case for the temperature.

Thanks and Regards.

  • It's way more cores than a game can ever use and it will end up running on the base clock of 3.4 which in my opinion isn't awful. I'd say if you were thinking about a better gpu you would need to find a cpu with a higher base clock. But a 1660 should be fine. If there is anyway to do all core turbo on that chip then 4.0ghz would be awesome. And I would also doubt the need for water cooling. Again with gaming you going to be using so few cores those chips aren't going to get hot.
