Hey all,

Got my sweet 5600...upgraded to 2 CPUs with heat sinks and fans...but I've hit a snag and am unsure how to proceed. Upgraded to 1300w power supply and I have a strix 1080 ti gpu I want to put in. I open it up, and there is one extra power cable 8pin to 6pin...and that's it. Not sure how to do the Sata power cable thing to get my additional 8 pin power...or any other way.

The gpu has both a 6 pin and 8 pin input. Have found many videos that say, oh just take this cable and plug it in the 6 pin, this cable to plug into the 8 pin...just not sure why I'm seeing one cable and people have two in videos.

Thanks for all the help! It's been an engineering mess/exciting adventure.

    • Gorilla Warfare thanks for your reply. I got one similar to that...but it doesn't seem to provide enough power to the graphics card.

  • I have an EVGA 1080ti in my 5600 and it powers it no problem , not sure what the issue could be.

  • Ok thanks so much! I will try it. I was also curious about ram...on the original processor it came with (which I replaced with two new xeons for dual CPU) in the 4 slots it had (in order) 8g/4g/4g/8g. I tried to do the same on the new CPU, but it wouldn't boot and gave me a memory error. I took out the two 4g in the middle (just leaving the two 8g on outside inputs) and it loaded right up (and I believe both CPUs are working). Is there a best way/best process for getting ram in there? Thanks again!

  • I have dual XEON's also and mine came with a 32GB matching set installed. What modules do you have and what XEON's?

    • Gorilla Warfare

      I have Lot of 2 Intel Xeon E5-2643 Quad Core 3.30GHz 10MB LGA2011 Processor SR0L7...

I have 24 gb on cpu 1 and 16 GB ram on cpu 2...

  • What are the rated speeds of these modules?

    • Gorilla Warfare speed of the CPUs are each 3.3 GHz...not sure on rated speeds of memory modules?

  • If you download HWINFO 64 bit version it will give you a detailed breakdown of your hardware.

  • Any updates?

  • Thanks, no new updates. I now have 3 monitors hooked to the graphics card...it's awesome...and I will be upgrading the HDD to SSD.

  • Excellent , sounds like a nice setup!
