750 Watt Power supply for Z420 Workstation
I don't think anyone has asked this on the forum yet since my search didn't bring anything. If it has been my apologies.
I'm upgrading my Z420 workstation w/ a 6 monitor video card setup but for that I'll need a 750 watts power supply.
From what I've been reading I cannot just get a power supply that is 750w since this particular workstation has special power needs and only certain power supplies work on it. Thankfully I found this site and it has great information I have been able to use to upgrade it but I didn't find a 750w power supply recommendation and it's been a challenge trying to find one that would be compatible w/ the Z420.
Can any of you recomend a decent 750/800w power supply that I could use w/ this workstation.
Thank you in advance for your help, it's much appreciated.
I've installed an EVGA 750W Power Supply in to the Z420. The model that I normally use is out of stock on my sites.
I did need to use this adapter during the install:
Phanteks AMP Series 750W 80PLUS Gold, ATX Power Supply, Fully Modular, Hybrid Mode, Silent Fan
It's high quality , it's a SEASONIC PLATFORM. Yes you can use the adapter.
TX-M Series™ TX750M — 750 Watt 80 Plus® Gold Certified PSU
Yes you can use the adapter.
I recently built a high-performance system based on the HP Z420 motherboard. Using a PSU adapter cable I installed the APEVIA 800 watt power supply. Since I installed an EVGA 1080ti graphics card I needed the extra wattage. I have an Intel Xeon E5-2689 CPU and a LEPA closed-loop, liquid cooled CPU Cooler with quad, push/pull fans on each side of the 240mm radiator. The system runs very cool. 64GB 1600 ECC RAM helps as well. I also have a M.2 NVMe SSD on a PCIe adapter card, a Soundblaster AE 5plus sound card, and a primary Samsung 1TB SSD for the OS. Instead of the original front side panel I used a clear Acrylic panel and tiny magnets to hold the panel to the case. Two blue 120mm LED exhaust fans help to keep the system running cool as well as looking great.
