HP Z600 Xeon X5690 Installation Epic Fail

So I watched the GPC Gamers installing Xeon X5690 to Z400 star movie on youtube, he was poking my eye with the tips of minaret looking highpowered heatsink, I said why not Z600 is the brother of Z400 but it did not work that way.

I can not close the case cover fully but it holds, it holds with a 1/2 cm gap, I can live with that, bright side it is an extra air vent anyway BUT

The real problem is the plastic air duct with fan inside, cooling RAM Memory, that doesn't fit in.

So how do you install Xeon X5690s to Z600? Please help

  • I've seen people turning the sinks like this to make them fit.

jstorme Interesting.  I thought about doing that.  I have one of the larger heatsinks versus the stock one and need a stock one instead since my processors are just normal x5650s.  The cover shut fine when the larger heatsink was closer to the drive bays but when I put the other on in place it didn't fit.  Maybe I'll try turning the heatsink and see if it fits better.

  • Will the board handle the two 130W processors though?  What is your video card drawing?  I think these only had the 600W psu's.
