HP z840 i7 6850K Ram Speed help

I know surprising this CPU works in this tower yes it does with a few quirks. I have this because it is cheaper than a e5 1650 v4 at right now. Its the highest single core CPU you can find for the z840 that I know of.

Issues- i first try to use a regular desktop 4x4gb DDR4 2400mhz kit, red blinking lights would not boot.  I then put back in the server ECC 2133 MHZ 8x4GB kit  and it booted. According to Intel this CPU wont support ECC memory. So i thought take out 4 sticks to sell, red beeps and wouldnt boot.  Put all 8 back in, boots. But,  only running at 1866MHz. Could someone explain this to me. I am completely up to date on all drivers. No way to change this in the bios im at a loss. Please help

  • Not knowing my way around an hp did it ever register 2133? And if your going for cheap and good the e5-1650v3 is cheaper than that i7. I've never seen drivers for memory speed. It's usually a setting in bios which probably isn't possible on that hp. I know I can change it on my Dell but only by doing a bios modification and changing the memory variables in the actual code and reflashing.
